There is a cowtale which since the beginning and for a
long time was only shared by and only told amongst the
cows themselves. The cowtale speaks of the time when
God was still busy creating Heaven and all that is under it.
Because God is God, God created a perfect cow meadow.
After a while, God ended up regretting to have overdone it.
To make amends,God created moomoocow and stuck
moomoocow in the cow meadow.

THE HOLY ISLE OF PATMOS: NOTES FROM THE 2012 VISIT TO THE HOLY ISLE My first introduction to the fabulous islands of the Mediterranean was in 1971 through "My Family and Other Animals" by GeraldDurrell, a book of required readingduring the Fourth Form at Victoria Institution, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Although set on the island of Corfu in the Ionian Sea, in my imagination, Patmos of the Aegean,must be similar in description. While Durrell was reminiscing about his childhood spent on a sunny island teeming with fauna under a turquoise sky, Patmos shallforever be associated with another writer, Saint John the Divine, author of the canonized Book of Revelation. The reader can imagine my pleasure to actually stepfoot on Patmos on May 9, 2012 and to enter the apocalypse cave where John received inspiration for his eschatology. Further up at the top of the hill in Chora lies theGreek Orthodox Monastery of Saint John the Theologian founded in 1088 when Byzantine Emperor Alexios I Komnenos gave the island to the soldier-priest JohnChristodoulos who built a hilltop castle to protect the monks from pirates and other invaders. Today, the Library holds 82 priceless manuscripts of the NewTestament,some of which, including the Codex Petropolitanus Purpureus, a 6th century Greek codex gospel book written on purple parchment leaves, are on display in theMuseum. The shop-lined streets leading to the two holy sites are joy for the visitor tobehold and explore in their own right (see photos below). My pilgrimage to theHoly Isle of Patmos was made possible through the course entitled "St. Paul and the Early Church in Turkey" taught by St. George's College in Jerusalem. More pages to come.
